Unidirectional orbital magnetoresistance in light-metal–ferromagnet bilayers

نویسندگان

چکیده

We report the observation of a unidirectional magnetoresistance (UMR) that originates from nonequilibrium orbital momentum induced by an electric current in naturally oxidized Cu/Co bilayer. The orbital-UMR scales with torque efficiency due to Rashba-Edelstein effect upon changing Co thickness and temperature, reflecting their common origin. attribute UMR orbital-dependent electron scattering orbital-to-spin conversion ferromagnetic layer. In contrast spin-current UMR, magnon contribution is absent thin layers, which we ascribe lack coupling between low energy magnons current. emerges layers thicker than about 5 nm, comparable length. Our results provide insight into transfer processes relevant for optimization spintronic devices based on light metals transport.

Orbital Magnetoresistance in the La2−xSrxCuO4 System

Measurements of resistivity, Hall effect, and magnetoresistance have been made on seven c–axis oriented thin–film specimens of La2−xSrxCuO4 with values of x from 0.048 to 0.275, and one specimen that also contains Nd. The orbital magnetoresistance is found not to be proportional to the square of the tangent of the Hall angle except for values of x near 0.15 above about 80K. For smaller values o...

Magnetoresistance, Gating and Proximity Effects in Ultrathin NbN-Bi2Se3 Bilayers

Ultrathin Bi2Se3-NbN bilayers comprise a simple proximity system of a topological insulator and an s-wave superconductor for studying gating effects on topological superconductors. Here we report on 3 nm thick NbN layers of weakly connected superconducting islands, overlayed with 10 nm thick Bi2Se3 film which facilitates enhanced proximity coupling between them. Resistance versus temperature of...

Using magnetoresistance to probe reversal asymmetry in exchange biased bilayers

We have measured the anisotropic magnetoresistance of Fe films exchange coupled to antiferromagnetic MnF2 layers. Exchange bias and coercivity obtained from magnetoresistance are in close agreement with superconducting quantum interference device magnetometry data. In addition the magnetoresistance reveals an asymmetry in the magnetization reversal process, despite the fact that the magnetizati...

Tunneling anisotropic magnetoresistance in Fe/GaAs/Au junctions: orbital effects

We report experiments on epitaxially grown Fe/GaAs/Au tunnel junctions demonstrating that the tunneling anisotropic magnetoresistance (TAMR) effect can be controlled by a magnetic field. Theoretical modelling shows that the interplay of the orbital effects of a magnetic field and the Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling in the GaAs barrier leads to an independent contribution to the TAMR effect with...

Unidirectional light propagation at exceptional points.

The magic garment worn by the fictional wizard Harry Potter makes him invisible and simultaneously allows him to see the outside world. The concept of this type of invisibility cloak has captured the imagination for centuries and has inspired many recent explorations in the field of optics. Making such a fictional garment is indeed a grand challenge: when invisible to the outside observer, the ...
